Indian Classical Music for Children~2

2010 August 18

This album of lullabies (in more than one language) by Carnatic vocalist Bombay Jayashri has been a hit with quite a few kids, especially at bedtimes.

Available here, here and here.

    Hi, Uttara!

Have been a lurker here – don’t think I have commented. Love your blog – esp. the music gyan and the books for kids and the alternative schools….well, a lot of stuff you have here. Had to comment on Vatsalyam – my kids have listened to this every day when they were tiny. Like a month and above.

This is how we made the move out of our room a super stress less. And how they got rooted into music being a daily thing. Now they listen to so many kinds of music – from Bharatiyar songs to Stereolab and classical Indian and western…they actually ask for the yellow cd by Sting and can sing RD Burman songs. And I credit it all to Vatsalyam. A sister cd to this is called Salokyam. Also a good one but this one is a rockstar in my opinion. Have gifted it to several people as new born gifts.

:) Well I am a lurker on your blog and the blog love is mutual-need to catch up on all your last month’s posts. In fact, I sent South Asian and Anjali to your blog, since we have been discussing faith and education.
I hope we move to Bangalore some day and since I know only about plants that grow in England I will rely on the gardening gyan on your blog!
I was thinking of doing a post on Salokyam as well. Thanks for reminding me!
      Does your son learn Tabla?

        Thanks.

Yes, he is really into tabla. Even practices and all. Did a recent post on that. Tabla was the activity that kept us all sane at one point.

Please come over – I gift plants too! :-D

I thought I had read something about him learning tabla-
          that’s great.
It will be some years before we are back-hope you are still in Bang then so I can take advantage of your plant gifts :)
