Will Self’s Rules for Writers
2010 February 22
Point five of Will Self’s rules for writers:
You know that sickening feeling of inadequacy and over-exposure you feel when you look upon your own empurpled prose? Relax into the awareness that this ghastly sensation will never, ever leave you, no matter how successful and publicly lauded you become. It is intrinsic to the real business of writing and should be cherished.
The rest here.

That’s so true! The first part of point five. I take heart from what he says afterward.
Best wishes,
Anjali
I’m not sure where to put this comment, but I wanted to ask you about the book you’re reading (it’s on the Amazon list on the right side of your blog), Shakuntala Narasimhan’s All You Wanted to Know About Indian Music. It sounds really good – would you recommend my buying it? Thanks!
Hi Kamini,
Yes, I would recommend buying it, esp for beginners. It’s got some typos and is a slim volume, but is a really handy ready reckoner…I supsect you might know a lot already-esp on the Carnatic music side, but it offers handy comparisons/equivalences with Hindustani music and Western music, if you are interested in that. I like the fact that it is an intro to both Hindustani and Carnatic in one volume. It’s very simply written and there is a useful glossary at the end. The author is a singer who sings both Hindustani and Carnatic-I had the pleasure of meeting her recently. Am hoping to put up something about her once I get over some other stuff. If you do buy the book, do consider clicking through from my blog itself, as I get paid a referral fee of about a cent or something and that goes towards my Amazon wishlist which is endless
Thanks, it does sound good! I will certainly click through from your site when I buy it.
Sounds like I too should get this book for myself, since I know very little about Indian classical music!
