Portrait of the Dog as a Young Man

Our late and beloved lab. I love everything about this photograph, though it’s not very clear and he looks fuzzy. The alert expression visible even through his smudginess. His giant paws (he grew into them). The pricked up ears. He’s looking at my mother (who took the photograph) the object of his unconditional adoration.

For a while , this snap remined me of Thurber’s sketches and his Thurber’s Dogs .

I WANT that young man!!
I just adore dogs, and have a HUGE soft corner for labs. This photo captured everything that is wonderful about them. I will be coming back and looking at that picture over and over again!
