I was planning to do such a link of India instruments and western music too! I see that you've already done it :) and so comprehensively! Will link to your post.

<em>Please do go ahead-have only done it on the Tanpura, Sitar, Surbahar and Veena, and with quite a limited angle...

Excellent series (well, two posts) about the Tanpura and Sitar. I know I'm commenting pretty late on this but nevertheless have two things to say:
1. I do not understand how being ignorant of anything can be perceived as 'cool'. Yes, it's quite OK not to know something but ignorance is ignorance, lack of knowledge is just that and does not make one better for that. Yet sadly, there *are* people who have weird, immature ideas about what makes one cool!
2. Really impressed with your knowledge of Hindustani and Carnatic music. I used to think I know a thing or two (not much) more than the average Indian of my age and generation but you know a whole lot more and reading these posts has been a learning experience! Thank you:)

<em>Thanks Shilpa. I don't know much myself, but am happy to share what I do in the hope that more people will immerse themselves in the ocean that is Indian music!
