The book I happened to pick up is Devi, Goddesses of India, edited by John Stratton Hawley and Donna Wulff. Page 123 is in the chapter on Radha, by Donna Wulff. In this chapter she talks, among other things, about Rupa Gosvami’s plays and his portrayal of Radha.
It is significant that the absolute for Rupa is not a metaphysical principle but an emotion; it is with such love, and not with brahman, that unity is sought. Radha, as love embodied, is thus the supreme avenue of religious realisation.
The love of Radha and Krishna is a subtle interplay of freedom and commitment, spontaneity and constancy.
