DNA has an article dated December 3rd on Rashmi and Sharmila Thackeray, Uddhav and Raj Thackeray’s wives. The article states:
A fan of classical music, Rashmi is a good ghazal singer, her friends reveal, with her favourites being Kishori Amonkar and Ghulam Ali, the Pakistani ghazal singer. “Rashmi was keen on going for a Ghulam Ali show some years back,” says a friend, “but had to miss it since the Sena had banned his concerts in the city”.
I remember that horrible day in 1998 when they wouldn’t let Ghulam Ali sing. I’m curious. Did Rashmi say anything? Did she try to stop the hooliganism? Was she angry? If I remember right, Uddhav was the Chief Guest at that concert-and didn’t show up.
Speaking of Ghazal singers, Farida Khanum has just performed in Delhi (and I missed it, being in England, sigh). The Times of India, good at making mistakes of this kind, has referred to Amjad Ali Khan twice as a “sitar maestro.”
Poor chaps…TOI guys apparently believe that Sarod is the same as Sitar. Their current print ad is nonsensical. They don’t have the slightest idea of what words mean. Their ad says “Times of India = Whatever!”. Do these idiots know in what context “whatever” is used these days?? This post was pretty funny…
